I’ve been told that I have a keystroke logger installed on my computer and that my usage is being monitored.. how can I see if this is true and get rid of it if it is?

Run Malwarebytes, Antivirus, Spyware, and try searching for keylogger remover to download that as well. Some are free but be sure you download a trusted source one. Some are viral themselves.

  • Download, update and scan with the following software:

    Avira http://free-av.com/
    Malwarebytes’ anti-malware http://malwarebytes.org/
    Superantispyware http://superantispyware.com/
    Spyware Terminator http://spywareterminator.com/

Quarantine whatever is found. If you already have up-to-date, decent (i.e. not Norton or McAfee) anti-virus software, remove Avira as it will conflict with them. Otherwise I would recommend using it as your AV (or to replace Norton or McAfee or a few others).
